Summertime Watermelon

Is there any fruit that means summer more than a summertime watermelon? This is one of those things that is best at a picnic, under a tree, or even as dessert on a hot summer evening. This also is a harbinger that summertime has arrived.

The summertime watermelon pictured above shows that a good season has been enjoyed by some. You are probably wondering if that watermelon would be sweet and I can unequivocally say that it is! This thing was 40″ round when we took it out of the fridge. It will be at least two nights of dessert with this thing.

we can thank our local farmer for the dessert. They hit a home run with the summertime watermelon! It is delicious and the benefits are huge. The money stays local and gets spread around. Now only if we could make more farmers use non-gmo seeds.

I prefer the non-gmo seeds and love the Amish Moon and Stars, however as a yearly reminder the local wildlife love to get my watermelons. It is tough growing produce and yet I still need to garden more like Thomas Jefferson.
