Revising History
The latest trailers for the Steven Spielberg movie Lincoln shows the lengths that revising history continues to go down. I was talking to someone today about the tag line in the trailer that states Abraham Lincon united us all. It will be interesting to see how revising history will work in this case is I am not sure how they came up with quote.
This film seems to cover the end of Lincoln’s life. The fact that he died shortly after Robert E Lee surrendered at Appomattox Courthouse leads me to wonder how they can get by with saying that “He United Us All”. The premise of this movie seems to imply that the first Civil War was about slavery as the primary issue.
I will keep an open mind, but it is a grave injustice to say the primary issue was slavery. If we allow that to be remembered we will not have learned from it and the deadliest war will be repeated in the future. It is important to learn from history and revising history does not accomplish that.
We need to reflect on the real reasons in order to prevent it in the future. I am afraid that it may not be possible as the same issues are being put in place no for many years. Revising History is not the answer. One of the things that you can do is to prepare like we talked about yesterday. Another is too learn the real reasons for the first civil war.
