Like the Minutemen
There are many great attributes of those proud citizen farmers that stood up and we should be more like the Minutemen! These were generally true citizen soldiers and they delivered what no one else thought they could. They grabbed a 2,000 pound bull by the horns and beat him. No one thought that you could stand up to the British Red Coats and win much less a bunch of farmers and shopkeepers.
As the multitude of Minutemen were gathered on Lexington green the nerves were running high. The reality was summed up by the quote above from Captain John Parker. It is reported that his instructions were as follows.
Stand your ground. Don’t fire unless fired upon, but if they mean to have a war, let it begin here.
Imagine being on the line staring down the world’s best Army at the time and following those instructions. They did not want to start anything, but they also were not afraid to respond if the situation was brought to them.
I believe that many people today could take encouragement from those words and use it in their daily life. It is past time to stand up to Washington DC and respond in kind if they bring it. Our Declaration of Independence announced to the world that we had inalienable rights endowed by our Creator. Those rights have been trampled on by the Federal government.
Remember when times get tougher to be more like the Minutemen and stand up. Our founders guaranteed that we would have arms to fight tyranny and it was not from foreign enemies they felt we would need them.
