Portable Solar Power for those devices on the go!

Portable Solar Power

If you are sick of dealing with dead batteries like I am than it is time for portable solar power. The most common trend in portable power these days is solar technology. I am trying to decide exactly what way I want to go. Given the times we live in we need to be able to recharge devices that we have come to depend on. My list would be different than yours, but generally we need a way to recharge them on the go.

One of the first things to consider is the ability to store a charge. If you are going camping it would be nice to start out with a device that could recharge your cell phone, radio, or gps without needing anything. This is becoming pretty common in the industry and many of the portable solar power units have a battery that can quickly recharge your devices.

The next main consideration is to be able to use your device while recharging. This will allow you to use your device even when it is dead and recharging. This changes the input power requirements, but it also allows for some flexibility. The reason for this is that now you can control where and when you want to recharge.

This may require you to have a pigtail with different connections. The reason for this it to ensure that given the time needed to charge the batteries is minimized.

I am on the lookout for the solution to my problems. There are three important things to consider when looking for your portable solar power, but whether I am camping or dealing with no power I would like to be able to recharge the different devices. If you have some experience with any portable solar power than please leave a comment below so we can all benefit from your experience.

  1. Well the first device you show is for charging batteries only and most we tested were slow doing it. The second one you show ( the Goal Zero) has a usb and 12v car style outlet and will charge a whole range of products. It is also made from monocrystaline panels which have higher output and last longer than others. Read the reviews on Goal Zero and do not waste your time and money on the battery chargers.

    • Tim,

Thank you so much for stopping by and commenting. Your relevant post reminded me of the Goal Zero line. I probably have it written down on my list somewhere but you reminded me of the benefits. It is great too hear someone that has done the testing. I look forward to adding one to my arsenal soon.
