Non Traditional Prepper Media
There are many ways to learn and one of the best is via non traditional prepper media. You are not going to get the information from the traditional mechanisms. We have talked about if before that you need to have redundant plans for communicating. Many people are utilizing the Internet to reach out, but are you aware of some of the others.
One of the best way is via chatting with the older generation. There has been an amazing amount of knowledge that has not been passed down. Based on my experience it is not from a lack of trying by the older generation. The time is running out for us to learn from some of these folks. There is a tremendous amount of education contained by the Adults or those that came of age very soon after the Great Depression. These folks have lived through uncertain economic times and know how to innovate to make life a little bit nicer.
I would encourage anyone to seek out some of these folks at nursing homes and spend a little time with them. They will certainly enjoy it and I am pretty confident that you will learn something important of you can get them talking. The worst case scenario is that you have brightened the day of someone that may not get the audience they once enjoyed.
Another great non traditional prepper media that once enjoyed a huge popularity is the shortwave radio. There was a huge infrastructure built to communicate across the world and it did see a decrease in listeners and broadcasters with the advent of the internet. One huge upside is the ability to receive only, which will limit people finding you via radio directional, and it can carry a signal a long way.
One of the best ways to reach out and discuss may not even need to connect a long way. Many Ham Radio enthusiasts will have a prepper net on the 2 meter VHF band. You would be amazed at the diverse knowledge that is assembled on some of these networks. Emergency Preparedness combines many of the things that amateur radio enthusiasts enjoy and are concerned. While you need to have a license to transmit anyone can listen. One of the most tangible things about these networks is they are usually geographically close to you. Sometimes you need local knowledge.
The ability to gain knowledge through non traditional prepper media is something that will pay huge benefits to you in your efforts. I am not certain of the number of people that use these methods, but I know there is plenty of room for you to join in.
Well said. I’m trying to get into HF so that I might know what’s coming from further out. But having a ham does not negate the viability of shortwave.
Well thank you! It is amazing what the capabilities of HF or shortwave can do. Might be a time coming where radio is the entertainment option.
