Undaunted Courage
What a treat it was to read Undaunted Courage by Stephen Ambrose. He is one of the rare history writers that are excellent at writing about history and being a storyteller. It is hard to believe this has been in print since 1997. I think I may have read it at least 8 times over that time period.
It is simply amazing that by Thomas Jefferson making the Louisiana Purchase and sending forth Meriweather Lewis and William Clark to lead an expedition to explore it. The flora and fauna they recorded and the people encountered is simply amazing. By reading this book you feel like you are part of the expedition.
Ambrose does an excellent job of relating what the political and general atmosphere was like during the time period. He of course does it in a very entertaining way. If you want to truly understand the adventure and risk the men of the Corps of Discovery underwent in travelling from Missouri to Oregon and back then you should read this book.
