John Wright Stanly House
We recently spent the day in the second oldest town in the Old North State. Besides Tryon Palace one of our favorites was the John Wright Stanly House. It is stunning example of late Georgian architecture and is absolutely stunning.
Although this house has been moved two times you can see the bones of this house. It has strong bones and you can see the symmetry in lines. It also has wonderful cross flow for breezes when the windows are open.
the back of the house is no less stunning. You can see the poor attempt to disguise the fake window just to the left of the door. This is most likely to show people that it is fake then the architects vision for the John Wright Stanly House.
This house was empty when President George Washington made his southern tour in 1791 and the citizens of New Bern furnished it and let the President stay there. He was in for a treat as the crown molding is absolutely gorgeous.
If you are ever close to New Bern, North Carolina I would encourage you to stop by and see the John Wright Stanly House as it is a great example of Georgian Architecture and living in a River town in the prior to air conditioning.
