Ambient Lighting
If you look back through the history of time one key constant is the ambient lighting. The newer technology LED and CFL still have not done a very good job of capturing the warmth of an incandescent bulb. In reality the bulb is merely a poor replacement for the true ambient lighting that mankind has been using for thousands of years.
Since the very first observed fire mankind has utilized fire for many different reasons. There is a healthy respect demanded by an open flame very similar to the debt paid to the sea. Generations have taken solitude in both and it is hard to replace the attributes of either. The soft light and the guaranteed flicker of an open flame is one that many have been soothed by.
It is that time of the year again when I can light a kerosene lamp and enjoy the peaceful serenity of the soft glow. There is comfort at hand knowing that hundreds of my ancestors saw the same light and made a place for it in their process. It is hard to ever imagine an LED taking it’s place.
This style of lighting hearkens back to a simpler time albeit with greater risk as it is an open flame. There is security knowing that whether the world is right or in total chaos I have applied skill with lighting that will comfort you in a time of peace or upheaval.
I encourage you to not wait until it is a requirement, but get some familiarity with the ambient lighting that has been used for thousands of years. There are safe ways to harness the ambient light today and not rely on LED lighting now.
